Long ago, Malin M. Jackson settled the land around the Buckeye Canal in 1884. He named it after the nickname for his home state of Ohio. From that point, the town gradually began to grow over the next century. It was officially incorporated in 1929 with 440 acres. Modern Buckeye includes a range of shops, restaurants and schools. The main commercial center for the town is along Watson Road. For shopping options, residents can check out the Sundance Town Center. To access more options, residents have to drive just 30 miles to reach downtown Phoenix.
To enjoy the great outdoors, residents just have to drive 7 miles south to reach the beautiful Buckeye Hills Recreation Area. Meanwhile, the Skyline Regional Park encompasses 8,700 acres in the White Tank Mountains. This park is home to horseback riding trails, hiking options and camping areas. In addition, Buckeye is currently in the process of setting up a 900-acre park around Buckeye Lake.
