Situated within the Gila River Valley, Maricopa has a total of 48,602 residents. As a part of Pinal County, this city is also a part of the Phoenix Metropolitan area. In recent years, the city has been the site of new developments like an industrial park and new retail sites.
This town was originally founded in the late 1800s because of its status as an oasis. Multiple rivers crossed the area, so it was one of the few sites with ample water. The town was a relay station on the San Antonio-San Diego Mail Line, so it played an integral role in developing the Southwest. During its early years, the town was the site of farmers and agricultural developments.
After a railroad line was constructed in Phoenix, the town began to develop significantly. New saloons, restaurants, hotels and theaters were started within the town. Interestingly, this community was not officially incorporated until 2003. In just 2000, the population was only 1,040 residents. By 2010, the number of residents had increased by 4,080 percent.
Today, a part of the town falls within the borders of the Ak-Chin Indian Community. This tribe hosts a casino, a cinema complex, a resort and a golf course. In addition, the tribe operates an industrial park and an airport.
Once residents find a home through Maricopa property management companies, they can enjoy the region's many restaurants and shops. Major retailers like Walmart, Ross Dress for Less and the Dollar Tree are located in the community. More unique shops like Toads Gone Wild and Sadie Rae's Closet can also be found in Maricopa.
For restaurants in the area, residents can choose between pizzerias, Southwestern cuisine, Mexican food, American fare and more. The best pizza joint can be found at the Brooklyn Boys Pizzeria & Restaurant. Located on North John Wayne Parkway, this restaurant offers a cozy environment for enjoying the best pizzas and meatball sandwiches. The Raceway Bar and Grill is another local favorite for pizza. For breakfast options, check out the Sunrise Cafe, Helen's Kitchen Restaurant or Agave's Restaurant. Meanwhile, some of the best Mexican-style cuisine can be found at Cilantro's Mexican Cocina. This restaurant offers delicious tacos, breakfast burritos and carne asada bowls.
